Multi-printers charm consumers
Printing photos at home will remain a popular practice for at least the rest of the decade, according to InfoTrends, a trend watcher of the digital imaging market. The Weymouth, Mass., market researcher notes in a recent report that "The home photo printer will remain an important product in the digital photography market, even though the years of significant growth that have accompanied the success of the digital camera market may have come to an end."
Although the digital camera market may be maturing, the consulting firm maintains that multi-function printers (MFPs) will be a bright spot in a fading picture, with shipments reaching 9.4 million by 2011. "Photo-enabled MFPs are not as trendy as the photo-centric units, but they have been able to maintain their sales volume better than photo-centric models," InfoTrends notes in a statement. "Multifunctional products accounted for 55% of the total photo-enabled inkjet market in 2006, and single-function printers made up the remaining 45%."

J.D. Power Picks Top Bytecams
If you want to know what satisfies consumers, chances are J.D. Power and Associates can tell you. It has built a business on finding out what corporate America's customers want and telling the world about it. This week the company released its annual digital camera usage and satisfaction study. Here are the top performers.
- Ultra Slim Segment. The Casio Exilim Zoom Series (photo above) dispatched all comers. According to Power, the "series' strong showing across all the key drivers of satisfaction makes it the highest-ranked ultra slim camera overall, with top scores in performance and ease of operation, and a tie for first overall with the Sony DSC-T series in terms of appearance."
- Point and Shoot Segment. Fujifilm's FinePix F Series topped the rankings in this category with best segment ratings for picture quality and performance, and second only to the Samsung A series in terms of appearance.
- Premium Point and Shoot. At thicker than an inch and selling for more than $230, the conquerer of this niche was the Canon PowerShot SD Series. "In this highly competitive segment," Power noted, "the Canon PowerShot SD series outdistances the pack according to survey respondents, with a significant index score spread between it and the No. 2-ranked model line in the segment, the Panasonic DMZ-FZ series."
- Digital Single Lens Reflex Segment. The Nikon D series wins the laurels. "Nikon's venerable D series ranks highest in all four survey factors as rated by consumers, and is the only DSLR camera to score above the overall segment average in the study," Power noted.
One of the biggest surprises in the survey was in the DSLR segment where Sony's A series nudged out Canon's digital EOS for second place in the category.

Epoq Bring A Touch Of Class To The Video Watch
If you're looking for an ultra-portable media player and watch rolled into one, Epoq's latest offering is well worth checking out. While it isn't cheap at $199, it does manage to combine two things so far sorely lacking in a single device - great, stylish looks and 2 gigs worth of MP4 video playback.
Currently sold out and on backorder at First For You, this has obviously been a popular summer spend, thanks I'm sure to some great coverage from Gizmodo.
They describe it:
"Made of stainless steel, this watch has a 1.5-inch LCD screen, 2GB memory, MP4 video and MP3/WMA/WAV audio"
Which makes for a very versatile piece of kit, especially if you note that its also possible to read ebooks on it. Okay, you might have to squint a little to get through war and peace, but this could be a handy way to catch up on your notes on the commute to work.

A Solar Charged Mouse in Trial Gear
That mouse right besides you, running on power or battery, wouldnt have ever thought of being a bygone reality and why would it have thought, the human brain that developed it, could someday come up with something better. Probably its notion would have been affirmative, had environment not been the issue but since latter is the hard fact, an alternative is struck.
A wireless photovoltaic-powered computer mouse is under trial, and if the solar powered mouse could yield positive results, then the aforementioned could certainly head to the landfills. Sole Mio, as they call this worlds first solar powered mouse was user tested by Minister Cramer of Holland, to see if solar power is actually capable of keeping the device charged for a busy days routine.
The objective of developing this mouse is to see whether renewable energy and amazing design can lure users, with the same intensity as its predecessors and to help get rid of hundreds of millions of batteries and power that is used to run such devices around the world.
In spite of all this, the success of the mouse will depend upon the usage pattern of the patrons, are they willing to charge the unit at the window during the daylight?

What's The Best Gadget of All Time?
The folks at Wired and voxpop.tv have come up with an interesting contest: The Greatest Gadget Of All Time Tournament. They took 64 gadgets from various points in time and set it up in an NCAA Final Four-style matchup. Gadget against gadget. Choose the best one.
If you can pick the same gadget everyone else picked, then you score points. The further up the bracket you match, the more points you get. The person who gets the most points after the scores have been tallied wins what is arguably the coolest gadget of 2007: the Apple iPhone. Wonder if it comes with the necessary 2 year service agreement with AT&T to use it, assuming you don't want to hack it.
My perhaps biased choice for the Greatest Gadget of all time was the Nokia 5110, pictured here. It brought durability and affordability to mobile communications, allowing people to connect everywhere. What was your choice as the Greatest Gadget? Post in the comments.

Is Xbox 360 is doomed
Via GigaOM - Quoted - We're still a few months from holiday shopping season, but I'm making this prediction now: The Xbox 360 is this year's PS3. Last year, of course, was when Sony's over-priced, under-delivered next generation console cost the company its preeminence in the console market to the Nintendo Wii. Similarly, the game industry will remember 2007 as the year Microsoft gave away its lead in the console wars, and lost its bid to become the living room PC.
