The Turbo.264 Accelerates Video Conversion for Apple TV
Watch a lot of video via iPod or Apple TV? Apparently you're trapped in a world of slow conversioElgato Systems would have you believe. Elgato's newest prodturbo.264, a USB stick and some software that decreases the time of conversion of video files to the H.264 (hence the name) MP4 standard that you can play on iPods or Apple TV. The turbo.264 is Mac-only (bummer) and can decrease conversion time by a factor for four for Intel machines and a factor of ten on PowerPC machines. The conversion process isn't automatic - you need to drag and drop the files before it starts - and for $99 for something your computer can do anyway, I can't see the turbo.264 being something you'd really need unless you're converting a LOT of video, or you're really, really impatient.

Microsoft Reclusa Gaming Keyboard
Well, you've got to like the name of this new Gaming Keyboard by Microsoft. It's called the Reclusa, which is Latin for: "to make oneself into a recluse".
This is one of several gaming keyboards that are coming out. Considering that World of Warcraft is at the six million mark and counting, there is definitely a demand. I'm not really sure what makes the Reclusa or other gaming keyboards any different from your average keyboard.
Perhaps you might like the programmable keys on the side of the keyboard that allow you to open your email or video controls. You can also set up macros for these keys to do other things for you.

If Clocky Doesn't Get You Up, Nothing Will
See Clocky. Clocky is an alarm clock. Give Clocky more than one snooze. See Clocky's wheels start turning. See Clocky run. Run after Clocky. Now you are awake.
All right, enough of this Dick and Jane talk. Yet Clocky is a real product that does everything that I have said. You might be the type that needs something to be running around the room before you will get out of bed. I know I am. Putting your alarm across the room may not help, because you need some sort of activity to engage your mental processes to wake you up. Clocky does all that and more.
Of course, you can alwaDanger Bomb Clock, assuming that is real. Clocky is the genuine article, avNanda for $49.99 in almond white, aqua, and mint colors.

Kingston Launches AMBER Alert USB Drive
An interestingAMBER Alert, which is the community watch equivalent for abducted children: a USB drive, made by Kingston, where you can store a whole mess of information about your child (biographical data, vital stats, relatives, places where they hang out, where they go online, etc.) in one location. AMBER Alert Child ID Kit, it's $29.95, but only works for one child at a time (of course). One thing that the drive's promo page doesn't mention that I'm curious about is encryption - the information is password-protected, but is it encrypted as well? If not, given how easy it is to lose USB drives, you might be putting your child at risk by compiling this information in one place.

Limited Edition Watch Honors 1970 Monte Carlo Rallye
As one who has driven thousands of miles, some in competition, on snow and ice and combinations of both, I can appreciate why the 1970 Monte Carlo Rallye became legendary. What made the notoriously tricky course even tougher was that while there was no snow, it was littered with icy patches that appeared at the most difficult moments. Bjorn Waldegaard drove and Lars Helmer navigated their Porsche 911 S to victory in this famous contest.
Which has given famed Swiss Girard-Perregaux reason to offer the new Monte Carlo Fly-back chronograph shown here. (Explaining Fly-back, Girard-Perregaux says "this special function was originally invented for airplane pilots. The chronograph hands return to zero and immediately start again without stopping when the chronograph is activated. This simply requires one press on the pushpiece thus permitting the user to gain precious time in the utilisation of the chronograph.") Aside from that, the driver and navigator's names are engraved on the back along with a reproduction of the car's registration plate. "Monte-Carlo 1970" appears in red letters on the black face. The steel case is fastened with a black alligator strap and the chronograph is limited to an edition of 250. If you hurry, you may be able to get one in time for the next big retro-rallye. Me, I'll be happy wearing my Heuer Carrera as I have since 1969 when it was the race and rallye driver's watch of choice.
