Electromagnetic Earth

Electromagnetic Earth
Let's be blunt here, there are several products out there that harness magnets in order to have items float seemingly magically in space but these invariably come with a design that locks in the item from top and bottom and so, we feel at least, the effect is not quite as striking as it could be. This is where this cool desktop gadget stands apart from the crowd as there is no frame or structure that interferes with the object being displayed - in this case a globe - so the effect is rather more engaging. The globe itself measures an impressive 11cm in diameter and floats completely free over its chrome plated base unit, which comes with the required power cable to power the magnets within. Obviously, as magnets are involved, it's not something you'll want to keep near any sensitive, electronically stored data (memory cars and such like) but as a desktop gadget we think is great and it' bound to prove not only of great fascination to everyone who sees it but also potentially a great educational tool for children.

Logitech MX Air Mouse

Logitech MX Air Mouse
For those of you who hate needing a certain amount of table space to get your mouse going, you might think the Logitech MX Air Mouse is the best thing to happen to mice since the scroller.

I never really heard of an air mouse before, but it essentially works by waving it in the air so you can pretend you're Harry Potter using his wand. Looks like it comes with some multiple buttons and a new twist on the scroller wheel.

You should be able to get it for about $149.99, hopefully it is worth it.

Turn a Photo to the Next Dimension

Turn a Photo to the Next Dimension
If you want to turn a photo in a 3-D version, but don't want to put on any goofy glasses, there is now the DIY 3-D Picture Frame Kit.

The 3-D works using lenticular technology that you see on 3-D postcards, which uses a series of micro vertical lenses overlaid on top of a photo display. Using the software on a JPEG photo, all you need to do is highlight the areas that you want to pop out. Then you just print it out, and put it into the frame under the special filter.

You can get it for about $24.99 at ThinkGeek. Keep in mind that the visual you see is nothing but a "representation" of what it would look like. Can't show a 3-D photo on a 2-D medium now, can we?

Carbon Hero Appeals to Your Conscience!

Carbon Hero Appeals to Your Conscience!
This gadget is essentially for those that seek to pass the buck on global warming (virtually everyone except maybe the Greenpeace activists, and of course Al Gore. Bless em Lord!) No frets, there still may be a chance for you to make a difference. Carbon Hero is a gadget that seeks to make individuals conscious of their carbon footprints when it comes to the kind of transport that they use.

The device

Carbon Hero is a small device which you can use as key ring. A carbon calculator, the device uses data such as users location, velocity and pattern of activity while he embarks on a journey. Using this data, it automatically generates the carbon emissions figure for the users transport habits.

Once generated and stored, the data is then stored on a cellphone or a PC to determine the amount of carbon emitted and credits needed to offset the same.

The designer

Carbon Hero has been designed by Andreas Zachariah. This design won him the 2007 BSI (British Standards Institute) Sustainability Design Awards. Andreas is a former investment professional. Resident of London, he is currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art (RCA) and is in his final year.

He says:

In an age where consumers are making purchasing decisions based on their environmental impact theres no reason why they shouldnt make the same choice about transport, be it public or private, on a daily basis.

Evaluation

Most of the other devices that seek to calculate users carbon footprints rely on self-made estimates. As such, there is always likelihood that the results are biased. While Im not quite sure about the exact working of this device, the fact that it does not require the user to enter any data is itself a boon. Also, the climate debate is usually not extended to compare the advantages of public transport vis--vis the private ones. Carbon Hero will make difference herein.

So next time the decision whether you should catch a bus or fill up on your cars tank instead, will be easier and more eco-friendly, all thanks to the Carbon Hero.

Digital Camera For Adventurers

Digital Camera For Adventurers
Source:www.cameratown.com

When I was young, and money was even scarcer than it is now, I often left my camera at home when I went fishing or hiking, for fear of damaging it.

Because of that I missed many opportunities for pictures, and now, because of medical problems I can't revisit those places, so those shots are gone forever.

Well, if you're into rough stuff, or if you're just a clumsy person, but would like to have a high quality digital camera along for the ride then this new camera from Minox may be just right for you.

Minox has just introduced the 6 mega pixel, "DC 6033 WP", weather proof camera.

I have a small Minox 35mm camera, with a short zoom lens, and the pictures it produces are exceptionally sharp and contrasty. If this Minox digital camera is at all like that one then it's a winner.

Check it out here.

Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.

Energy Saving Adapter - Intelligent but Doubtful Concept!

Energy Saving Adapter - Intelligent but Doubtful Concept!
One good thing to do in the ongoing energy crisis is to save energy in homes. You will be surprised to know that 10% of your monthly electric costs come from appliances in standby mode. Although the Gilles Belleys Energy Saving Adapter is just a concept at the moment, it promises to cut your power consumption by ten per cent thereby saving the world one power plug at a time.

The energy saving modular power adapter monitors your electrical gadgets individually and informs you if your electronic device goes into standby mode. When it senses sleep mode, a cool organic light pattern appears on the top of the unit that asks you to power off the device. If you still dont do that, the Energy Saving Adapter does that after a 3-minutes wait.

Thats no doubt a neat solution to cut down power consumption at homes or in offices. But, I doubt it will work well with notebooks and computers that have gone into standby mode. What, if there is some unsaved data there?

Minox New Digital Cameras

Minox New Digital Cameras
Minox is planning to release two new digital cameras in the near future. The DC 6033 WP and DC 7022 both have USB connectivity as well as PictBridge technology, so you can print directly from your camera.

The DC 6033 WP is Water Proof for up to ten meters, and has SD card support as well as a MINOCTAR fixed lens. It also has 6 Megapixels and 16MB of onboard flash memory, which is quite unusual for a waterproof camera.

As for the DC 7022, it isn't waterproof, but still has just as much interesting features. For example, it has a 3-inch TFT screen, 4x optical zoom and 7 Megapixels of power. Also not bad.

Of course, the man at Minox has not told us when the DC 6033 WP and DC 7022 will be available, so just keep a sharp eye out.
